The Software

Byblos is open-source voice-to-text software licensed under the MIT License. The source code is freely available at github.com/jb1999/byblos.

Shareware Model

Byblos is free to use with no feature restrictions. An optional annual license removes the periodic support reminder and supports continued development. All features work identically with or without a license.

License Keys

• Annual license keys are valid for one year from the date of purchase
• Keys are tied to a machine instance and can be deactivated and transferred
• License purchases are processed by LemonSqueezy as Merchant of Record
• Refund requests are handled by LemonSqueezy per their refund policy

Local Processing

Byblos runs entirely on your device. You are responsible for:

• Granting necessary macOS permissions (microphone, accessibility)
• Downloading and managing speech and LLM models
• Backing up your local data (transcripts, vocabulary, preferences)

No Warranty

The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. See the full MIT License for details.

Speech Recognition Accuracy

Byblos uses open-source speech recognition models that may produce inaccurate transcriptions. Do not rely on Byblos for critical, legal, or medical transcription without manual review.

Agent Features

The AI agent features (screen reading, file search, AppleScript execution) require explicit user activation and appropriate macOS permissions. Byblos will not execute destructive system commands. You are responsible for reviewing agent actions and their results.

Changes

These terms may be updated. Significant changes will be noted in release notes on GitHub.
